About Us

Mike Xhengo and his family left Tirana, Albania in 2000, when he was just 21 years old. They came to the United States looking for their opportunity to become part of the American Dream.

Shortly after arriving, the family moved into an apartment in Winthrop, Massachusetts where they stayed for 2-years. In 2002, Mike and his family move to Central Ave in Revere, where they live now. The family is currently in the process of building a home in the Beachmont section of Revere.

In 2000, at 21 years old, Mike took his education in food and restaurants he achieved in Albania, and landed on the doorstep on Anthony’s Pier 4 Restaurant in Swampscott, Massachusetts, where he learned his craft, and the American culture for 2 years.

After leaving Pier 4, Mike then set his sights on the retail deli and sandwich market. In 2002, Mike took a chefs position with his cousin Melse Xhengo, owner of Brother’s Roast Beef. Brother’s Roast Beefs are located in Malden, Quincy, Abington, and Weymouth.

In 2005 Mike, with support from his family, including his cousin Melse, decided to go out on his own, and invested in Revere. He signed a lease in the old Magee’s Corner Variety Store & Subs, located at 35 Revere Street in Revere. On June 3rd, 2005, the Xhengo family opened their doors to an overwhelming welcome. He continues his success to this day.

It was not an easy road for Mike, in 2006 he received word that he was being sued over his original name, Mike’s Roast Beef & Pizza. Another restaurant in Everett with a similar name felt Mike was infringing on their name. He changed the name to Mak’s Roast Beef. Mak is short for his Albanian birth name; Maksim.
